Whatever Happened to Loic Remy?
When Chelsea paid our West London neighbours, Queens Park Rangers, £10.5 million in the summer of 2014, for Loic Remy, it appeared the club had added a top-notch striker to the club.
Upon joining the club, Loic uttered all the correct words relating to his move, remarking to the media,
"I feel very happy and very proud. When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me I said 'let's go' straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world'
However, the Chelsea career of Loïc Alex Teliére Hubert Rémy wasn`t to be the success many hoped it would be.
Remy made his Chelsea debut against Swansea on 13 September 2014, getting off to the perfect start, scoring the final goal in a 4-2 win, after coming off the bench as a substitute.
But Remy`s appearances in the first team were few and far between, Diego Costa was the preferred choice with Remy only being called upon as a starter when Costa was either injured or suspended.
But whilst that scenario, considering Costa`s disciplinary record, should have opened the door for Remy to make an impression, the Frenchman was troubled by injuries of his own thereby failing to take advantage of the chances that often befell him.
Just two years after joining Chelsea, Remy was loaned to Crystal Palace for the season, but once again injuries played a key role, before he`d even made his debut for the South London club, Remy picked up a knee injury during training and didn`t make his debut until January.
The last day of August 2017 saw Remy released by Chelsea Football Club. A day later the Frenchman joined the Spanish club Las Palmas, in January 2018 he was then loaned to another La Liga side, Getafe, where he is currently playing today.
Chelsea`s £10.5 million investment in the player saw Remy make 32 appearances in the League scoring just 8 goals.
