The Nouveau Frugal Russian Won`t Sack Conte

The Nouveau Frugal Russian Won`t Sack Conte

So certain is Antonio Conte`s departure from Stamford Bridge, that the media in all their tabloid glory have given up even mentioning it. Ordinarily, that defeat up at City would have drawn endless column inches prophesying his exit.

The best they can now deliver is their opinion on where he`ll be coaching next season. This morning it would appear that Paris St Germain is one the likely contenders. That according to L`equipe the French club have been in contact with Conte`s brother, Gianluca, sounding him out about a possible switch over to Paris.

With Conte and the Chelsea board at loggerheads in recent months, the Italians claim that he wants to see out his current contract gives the impression of a man who wants to be sacked rather just walk away. There can`t be many professions in the world where you can get fired for not doing your job properly and yet leave with a massive payoff.

The nouveau frugal Roman Abramovich must himself be struggling with this concept or Conte would have been gone months ago. No doubt, come the end of the season the lawyers will have come up with some kind of mutual consent agreement that will see Conte eventually get his way.

Until then, expect more of the same. A tricky game against Crystal Palace on Saturday is followed by that trip to the Nou Camp which precedes an FA Cup tie at Leicester City. Three season defining games for Chelsea, not for Conte though, he`ll be Okay. He`ll move on, we`ll still be here though Antonio, us supporters, still supporting a club once again in freefall.
