Batshuayi Nets a Brace for Borussia Dortmund

Batshuayi Nets a Brace for Borussia Dortmund

I can`t remember the last time that a centre-forward scored a goal for Chelsea!

Hopefully, someone will enlighten me though, although it would be churlish to not point out that Olivier Giroud came very close to scoring against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

However, over on the continent, somebody we`re all very familiar with continues to hit the back of net on a regular basis.

Michy Batshuayi came off the bench, at the weekend, to score a brace as his side Borussia Dortmund, beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2.

The second of those two goals, and the winner, came in the 94th minute as our young Belgian striker became a hero with his late winner.

Batshuayi, since moving to Borussia Dortmund on loan, has hit 7 goals in 9 games, as he continues to make the right impression.

It has been said that Batshuayi`s control of the ball and his inability to hold the ball up to bring others into the game will prevent him form becoming a regular in the first-team at Chelsea, but, it would seem, the lad has that uncanny knack of being in the right place to stick the ball into the back of the net!

The last league goal by a striker was scored by Alvaro Morata against Brighton on 26th December. The last goal by a striker in any competition was Olivier Giroud in the 4-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup on 16th Feb. Not including our false striker.

I watched that game, he was superb when he finally came on, two goals in a tough match . Maybe one of these days we will get an attack minded coach, who can make use of Bats and Kenedy.

Well, Conte prefers a striker than can hold the ball to one that can score goals. The only problem is that hold-up play doesn't win matches, but goals does. Moreover, Morata's holdup play isn't even much better than Mitch's. Conte is getting rid of good players and then goes to the media to complain about lack of quality...

Even if Chelsea had signed Aguero, we would have played him with is back to the goal and expected him to hold the ball up and bring others into play. It wouldn`t had worked, everyone would have been slagging him off because he was not a patch on Drogba in relation to his hold up play and he would have been sold off. Unfortunately our club has not yet recognised that the majority of top world clubs, as well as internationally, that they no longer play a big man up front, so that you can lump the ball up to him, for everyone else to pick up the pieces. Batshuyi is just another example of our club not understanding that football has actually moved on, just as will Michy have to do. No doubt we`ll want him back for 100m in five years time. Clueless FC.
