The Shevchenko Mystery?

The Shevchenko Mystery?

After revealing last night that Chelsea had revealed that Andriy Shevchenko would not be part of the party that travelled to Liverpool, today has seen various rumours emerge.

Amongst them was a suggestion that Shevchenko had fallen out with Mourinho and subsequently been dropped whilst another suggested that his apparent hamstring injury had been picked up at differing times. According to the scurrilous out there the suggestion is that Shevchenko announced he tweaked his hamstring on Saturday against Bolton whilst another source suggested it had happened in training on Sunday.

Whilst we here at Vital Chelsea are able to offer no evidence to suggest either of the rumours is right, we are able to print what one of the greatest strikers in Europe had to say about the matter.

Here`s what Shevchenko had to say with regard to his injury,

"It is something which has been affecting my performances for the last few weeks and in the last game against Bolton I aggravated the injury. I am really sorry to miss the match and can`t be with the team to help and support them. I will remain in London and work hard on my rehabilitation to ensure I can make myself available as soon as possible"

It`ll certainly be interesting to see if any of the tabloids would like to contradict this statement. Especially considering how the Daily Mirror has already had to offer Shevchenko two written apologies since he`s been at Chelsea.

Once again, the Media are just desperate to pan Sheva. He's injured, simple as that. He's been a consumate pro since the day he arrived and these stories are so ridiculous. No doubt the Mirror and various other papers will print some more, tiny apologies in due course that no one will ever see. Why do so many people hang on every word the Press feeds them?

The boy just aint right for English football. He needs to be back in Italy, I was sort of looking forward to watching him play this season, I bet you chavs were too, never mind.

I think that gunnerb is right: Andriy Shevchenko just doesn't look like he's suited to the English game. That doesn't make him a bad player, or a failure, or detract from his previous acheivements elsewhere, it just means that at this stage of his career he probably would find the back of the net more regularly if he were playing in, say, Italy or Spain. It's no disgrace to the player at all but, let's be honest, he hasn't provided what was expected of him And, to be fair, how could he? Few 30 year-old strikers can claim to be anything past their prime and Shevchenko doesn't seem to be one of the exceptions. Add to that the fact that he was coming to a league very different to the one where he plied his trade so successfully, that he had the weight of £31 million of expectation around his neck and that his new manager didn't want him in the first place and it's not hard to see why he's failed to be anywhere near as deadly as he was for AC Milan. Given a change of scenery, I'm sure he could show his class again, but it's hard to imagine that he'll ever get back to his nearly 30 goals a season form of the last few years with Chelsea. Even the staunchest of Chelsea fans could describe his signing as anything other than a disappointment.

I wrote this yesterday "pride.....fall.....I'll be back tomorrow". I was told not to bother but here I am........BACK. You pretentious windbags......where are you all today? Cheating filth. What a pathetically inept, dirty, cheating performance. 1 goal, 1 offside (not) goal, 1 hit the bar, nothing from you. Good riddance.

I'm sorry but i don't think shevchenko wouldn't do much of a difference since he is very heavy an slow.I still can't believe we payed 20mil to Paulo Ferreira.I still can't believe that.He is worth 3 mil max. We will have Alex next season.I don't know what happened to boulahrouz.I know we won't have defensive problems next season.I know we will probably sell a right back or two, and buy a world class right back. I know we will need to do something with Robben, to stop his injuries.Probably sell SWP and bring Saha to first team action.Or buy a Quaresma sort of player. That's all we need. 3 in and 3 out.

Springy, Paulo doing fine on two legs doesn't make it okay for spending 20 mil on him.Unless we are paying him 10 mil for a good game. Do you think Paulo is reliable? in my opinion anyone worth 20mil has to be reliable.I don't think he is.
