Everton vs. Chelsea

Goodison Park

Everton v Chelsea Preview!

After the euphoria of a second win this season over Arsenal, Chelsea face a difficult trip to Goodison Park, this Wednesday, to take on an Everton side that have, apart from a defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, hit a run of form recently. A win, for Chelsea, would confirm their status as being top of the Premier League heading into an FA Cup weekend. A defeat would once again leave the door ajar for Manchester United to hit top spot.

Vital Quotes:

Ahead of the clash Phil Neville, the more respected of the Neville brothers (in my opinion) has sounded his own battle-cry by remarking,

"I don`t think we should be afraid of anyone at the moment."

Whereas Carlo Ancelotti has left nobody in any doubt as to the importance of the match, commenting,

"We need to win because we need to stay top of the table. It won't be easy because against Everton now it's very difficult."

'Everton are playing very well. They lost their last game against Liverpool, but they were playing well in their previous matches."

'We have to pay attention. A lot of attention. It could be very important moment in the Premier League. It could be an important date.'

Anyone else can`t wait?

Everton Team News:

David Moyes saw his side hit hard by injuries earlier this season but, up to Saturday`s encounter with Liverpool, things were looking rosier. Phil Jagielka remains sidelined but several big names are now available. Mikel Arteta has returned after a very serious knee injury but isn`t quite ready for ninety minutes of competitive action but Moyes may have little choice if Fellaini fails a fitness test on the leg almost scythed in half on Saturday. Stephen Pienaar will also be absent after receiving a red card, late on, after a clash with Steven Gerrard.

Player to watch: Louis Saha

It still haunts me that Saha claimed Roberto Di Matteo`s incredible fastest goal in a Wembley FA Cup Final, especially when you consider it was against us. A forward who, when fit; is able to live with the best around, a deadly finisher and a predator in front of goal. Let`s hope he has a quiet game.

Chelsea Team News:

Carlo Ancelotti takes his squad north in buoyant mood. A win over Arsenal has more-or-less turned the title into a two horse race. However, the awareness that a similar victory over Arsenal led to a poor run needs to be drummed into a squad that should only be missing the injured trio of Michael Essien, Juliano Belletti and Jose Bosingwa.

We doubt that Carlo will make too many changes ahead of the fixture as we believe he`ll use the FA Cup clash with Cardiff City, this Saturday, to give some of his fringe players a run out. Therefore, with John Terry once again seeking sanctuary on a football pitch, expect Chelsea to line up as follows:-

Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Carvalho, A.Cole,. Mikel, Lampard, Ballack, Malouda, Drogba, Anelka.

Player to watch: John Terry

Rumoured to be on the way out to Dubai to sort out his personal life after the game tonight, since the media witch-hunt began John has put in some incredible performances, my money I son him to give an impervious display up at Goodison Park!

Match Facts & Stats

Goodison Park is a happy hunting ground for Chelsea with Chelsea not having lost there since 2000, a total of 24 competitive matches. Although the last three meetings have been draws!

Ref Watch:

Alan Wiley will be the referee taking control of the fixture!

Match Prediction:

Goodison Park is a tough place to go at the best of times let alone when the opposition will be dead keen to knock you off the top of the Premier League as well as give a constant verbal blast at your captain for ninety minutes. However, if we want to win the Premier League title then Goodison Park is the very sort of ground that you venture into, silence the home fans and walk away grinning that you`ve nicked the result. Everton can have as much of the play as they wish but if we can sneak a winner I`ll have a broad smile on my face for the rest of the week. 1-0 to Chelsea with Lampard scoring!

Next Fixtures:

Saturday, 12:00 hours, is the scheduled kick-off for our next fixture, a thrilling FA Cup 5th round tie against high-flying Championship side, Cardiff City. Stamford Bridge is sold out for what promises to be a classic England v Wales encounter!

Hope Fellaini misses out, vl surely tear them apart in theMF
BlueFire
Landycakes is good too =) I think he can cause us troubles as well.
Nika
I hope Joe Cole gets a start, he's due. Any word on JT's leg?
emigre
Fellaini is definitely out.......but Arteta is back.:(
mutters
Yep! Jt's playing.
blueogre
Does anyone reckon Manchester United might drop points at Villa Park?
merlin
you'll share the points in this one, 1-1 I reckon!
rosshammer
Merlin, it all depends which Villa will show up... potential is there.
emigre
Arteta was spent after 15 minutes against Liverpool he won't start. I'd predict he'll move Heitinga into midfield and start with Howard, Neville, Senderos, Distin, Baines, Donovan, Heitinga, Osman, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill and Saha. If I was picking the side though, I'd start Yakubu up front and have Coleman at right back. Senderos + Distin together against Drogba is just asking for trouble.
EvertonMike
Dont be such a spoil sport....Senderos looooves playing against Drogba!!
mutters
Everton are a hard working team, like the Man.C. match the will give our midfield very little time on the ball. If our back line is going to keep passing the ball to Cech we are in trouble. If we are able to control the game we will win.
vetri
Imagine Chelsea draw and MU win, we'll share 1st place. I'm fine with that. However, that kind of results would create a mess in the forum, more of the same moaning: "lost title already", "overpaid stiff", "CA clueless","buy Zidane, Figo, Pele, Aguero, Kaka, Ribery...".
tranton
Ill take anytype of win 0-1, 0-3 4-5!!!if everton do score I hope its donovan. I also think Dider will terrorise the Everton CB's...
Cechurself
Defending well is key. Isn't it always? We do that and we're fine. I was really pleased to see Carlo start Malouda this past Sunday; I hope he does it again.
RadioactiveD
I've got a soft spot for Donovan too--and I hope we give him a miserable time!
RadioactiveD
3 points..come on Chelsea!
blueKnightz09
no fellaini and pienaar ..we must dominate posession and hit them hard..hope anelka gets one missed couple of chances are against arsenal...
haji ahmed
I'm not so sure haji......as Carlo said on Sunday, there's no point having all the possesson if you dont score. I see no reason to do other than repeat our Sunday tactics at Goodxison Park! Let them have the possession where it doesn't hurt us and then hit them on the break. Malouda must play though. I would not mind Anelka and Joey playing either, with Drogs given a rest on the bench to start with.
mutters
this will end either 1-1 -1-2 or 1-3 but it will be a draw for most of the match!
Rune3k
well it wont be like arsenal saha is a dangerous striker ..and the everton defense wont go down easily on counter attacks ..yah malouda must start personally i fancy to see malouda ,joe cole and drogba up front with nico on the bench ...hope to see sturridge on the bench anyways he is better than kalou
haji ahmed
I'm actually more nervous about the Everton game than the Arsenal game... :)
JT_daniel
Expect a nervy, tight game, I'd imagine, with surely only a goal or two in it. These are exactly the games that seperate champions from also-rans - the latter drop points at places like Goodison while the former grind out victories. Let's not waste all our hard work from Sunday, and keep the momentum going. UTC.
daspecial1
Jagielka got injured before the Cup final last May, and hasn't played since. Hope he gets back to full fitness soon, as he's a top defender!
