Capital One Cup Semi-Final

Liberty Stadium

On Sky

Some are describing it as possibly the most important game of the season so far. If we can go the Liberty Stadium and over-turn a 2-0 deficit it will be a huge performance. Chelsea`s record, on the road, in recent weeks has been exemplary with the side notching up big wins at Stoke, Leeds and Southampton, maybe, just maybe, if Swansea get a little nervous about being so close to a major Wembley final, then perhaps we could be celebrating a dramatic comeback.

Vital Quotes:

Ahead of the tie, Gary Cahill has epitomized the spirit running through the side and the center back aims to be at the heart of a memorable comeback, remarking,

"Swansea will probably have enjoyed watching us having to work so hard against Arsenal on Sunday, but they will also have seen what we are capable of."

"It`s one of the biggest games of the season for us and, though it`s going to be tough to turn things around, it`s not beyond us."

It certainly isn`t, so come on Chelsea let`s show them!

Swansea Team News:

Michael Laudrup, fast establishing a decent reputation in his first season in English football, will be without three key players in Kemy Agustien, Neil Taylor and Chico. If the latter doesn`t pass a fitness test then Gary Monk is expected to deputise.

Ashley Williams, who missed the last fixture as his partner had gone into labour, is expected to return to the starting eleven.

Player to watch: Michu

The Spaniard, picked up in a Spanish bargain bucket, has established quite a reputation in his first season in the Premier League. The Spaniard also scored the opening goal in the semi-final first leg, a goal that has put us on the back foot.

Chelsea Team News:

Rafa Benitez takes his squad to South Wales without the duo of Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel, both of whom are on international duty with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations.

Also missing through injury are Oriol Romeu and David Luiz. The former has a long-term knee injury whilst the latter has an ankle injury that isn`t likely to have eased before tomorrow night.

The biggest questions relating to Rafa`s starting eleven seem to be:-

- Will John Terry return to the starting eleven?
- Will Demba Ba or Fernando Torres lead the attack?

Player to watch: Juan Mata

If Chelsea are to rescue this tie, with a display of epic proportion, we`ll need the Spaniard to be at his best. If he can pull the strings like we know he can, then we just may be in with a chance.

Match Facts & Stats

This is only the second time our paths have crossed in the League Cup, on the previous occasion being way back in 1964 when we were beaten 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Our last two trips to the Liberty Stadium have both ended in 1-1 draws.

Our officials for this match are;- Referee - C. Foy Assistant - J. Collin Assistant - S. Bennett Fourth Official - M. Jones

Match Prediction:

There`s no doubt this is a hard task, Swansea are no mugs at home and Chelsea, trailing by two goals from the first leg, cannot afford to concede another one. If Chelsea can play like they played against Arsenal (in the first half), we may stand a chance, but I reckon the best we can hope for is to force this into extra time, then we`ll see who wants it most.

Next Fixtures:

We`re off to Griffin Park this Saturday lunchtime for an FA Cup 4th round clash with our West London neighbours, Brentford, kick off is at 12:30 (UK time)

Date:Tuesday January 22 2013

If there is any thing certain in football, it is that there is no contest that is over at halftime. We still have it to play for. Swansea would be playing at home and since they have a 2goal lead to protect, they would want to sit deep and play on the counter. So if we apply enough pressure and play them with intensity, they would panic and make mistakes. We would definately create enough chances but what will tell is if we can convert them.

Mata would also have be at his best cos whenever he is playing well, the team plays well. He hasnt been at his best in the last few matches which can be blamed on fatigue but i think he can really step it up tomorow. Hope tuddy wont be foolish to start with torres.

If Swansea make the mistake of attacking us as Arsenal did, they will conceed 4 before half time, mark my words. Our young players have learnt alot from our CL crash out and CWC defeat. It will not happen again. We tend to even play better and score more away from the bridge battering Stoke and Everton in the process. I am very confident we will turn things around.

In the first leg, we created numerous chances but could not score as we had no CF upfront, Ba came on and troubled them alot, he even scored a wicked goal that was wrongfully ruled out. We gave them 2 cheap goals, I dont remember them creating any reasonable chance. If Ba starts, they will be in big trouble as they wont be able to handle him. 2 or 3 defenders will try to mark him and this will leave plenty of space for Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Lamps, Rami to expliot. He will cause them plenty of problem with his deadly movements and score even from half chances unlike a certain Torres.

sup merlin, is our prizes ever gonna be sent?

Swansea knows they are playing Bradford in the final......they will fancy their chances and im sure they will fight tooth and nail to win this game. Given our recent run,im not very upbeat about this match to be honest. Im more interested in catching up with City and pushing further away from the chasing pack in the league.

Start the game exactly like against Arsenal ! Score of Couple in the first 15 Minutes. With a fresh Demba Ba upfront, I am very optimistic. Not sure about Juan Mata being at his best as he is showing some sign of fatigue lately. Oscar is not at his half best recently too. Guys like David Luzi ( if fit ) is very important as the pivot for this one.

i think Hazard & Ba can save our day tonight ... also if Lampard is not selfish for record breaking .... am confident we ll reach Wembley
23/01/2013 09:05:00
I think we stand a chance. I don't see the game into extra time, as long RB minds who he starts as striker.
23/01/2013 09:21:00
Seeing the match official of the day, I doubt if we'll win, this man would do everything in his power to make our lives miserable and thinking of his officiating against qpr last year under andre villas boas is making my body boil with rage, but if we play perfectly in this game, we can even overcome his refree bias, rafa benitez brought us into this mess and if he is really a good coach, he can turn it around atleast the person he replaced overturned a 3-1 deficit with a quality napoli side boasting of the likes of edison cavani, marek hamsik and ezekiel lavezzi, yes if he is as good as RDM or more, he can still master mind a win, if he has a daring game plan, lampard have been playing lots of games and I think with david luiz's absence he'll get the nod again, if he does, he should forget about breaking tam blings record this nite, he should stay in his position as he did in the camp nou, only venturing forward when we have a set piece or something, but I think I'll go with a cech, cole, terry, cahill, iva, rammy, oscar*mata, hazard, marin, ba.. Lamps is getting tired too and mata is already knackered, he should know how to use them intelligently, damnit our squad is just too thin

BREAKING news: Shakira & Gerard Pique celebrate the birth of their son, the baby (milan) coming just 9 months after John Terry was sent off in Barcelona.
23/01/2013 09:32:00
i have afeeling we will win this match desmon nd head to wembley our second home ground
23/01/2013 09:33:00
that ref is responsible 4 our loss against QPR last season and all that nonsense that followed. emotions were running high because of his atrocious decisions n things got out of hand.. btw looooool @bluesomali, i wouldnt put it past jt :)
23/01/2013 12:22:00
i think that rafa will today play ba and torres from the start! He will surely be after a fast goal! We need a goal in the first 30 mins! Swans will get nervous.......we have a chance! COME ON CHELSEA!!!! IŽll go with a 3:0 win for CFC! Torres to score too!
23/01/2013 12:51:00
If we can repeat our scintilating away form,we 'll overturn the table here. We only need the right team selection to scale through.
23/01/2013 13:40:00
Well the office today has been buzzing for this one. I'm one of only two Chelsea fans surrounded by loads of Swans. I've already had the scarves and banners and flags shoved in my face, but one thing is certain: THEY ARE BRICKING IT!! Nervous bunch and very scared that the mighty blues will come through to win. Gutted that I couldn't get a ticket for tonight now!
23/01/2013 13:46:00
gutted for you @ bizzare, we have nothing to lose in this game. I was mightily impressed by Aston Villa 1st half performance last night and believe that if they can put in such performance in their remaining league apperance, they will move out of relegation. Having said that, Benitez should adopt a very attacking formation without Terry at the back because we need to push up and keep a high line with will neccesitate the use of fast CBs to close gap btwn the line and the goalkeeper. Marin and Hazar should start very wide and both should as a priority cross the ball quickly into the opposition's box rather than trying to dribble into the box. David Luiz if avaliable should start as the sole DM or Ramires and should be tasked with screening the back four primarily and not join the attack. Torres should start behind Demba Ba and both strikers should look to shot at every opportunity and run at the swansea defence. the augries are in our favour. We are playing away from home, with nothing to lose. I say we adopt Admiral Farragout famous quote during american's civl war ... ( FULL SPEED AHEAD;; DAMN THE TORPEDOS)

There seem to be doubts if the match will go ahead. Its been snowing heavily at swansea. Am suprisely very hopeful that today will go our way.
